2019 Annual Report

For us, giving well means several things. When we support community-based organizations, our focus is on understanding and empowering their work, and not imposing our agenda. It means funding organizations and programs that help people break out of toxic cycles and re-connect to sources of strength they may not have known about. It means building partnerships with organizations who demonstrate their ability to create lasting solutions to seemingly intractable problems. In this report, you will read stories about organizations who are doing all of these things to make sure people are able to achieve their best health.

Sometimes the challenges our communities face seem overwhelming, but people are resilient.  When smart people with compassionate hearts come together, and when they have the resources they need, the power of change is unleashed.  It is important to be reminded of how powerful that change can be, and of the ingredients – people, passion, resources, and community – that fuel change. The Foundation's mission is clear and straightforward: improving people's health and removing barriers to getting health care. The path, however, is not so clear and straightforward. What it comes down to is the imperative to improve the health of those in need across differences in cultures and life experiences. That's the kind of work you'll read about in this report and that we are proud to support. 

2016 Annual Report

The promise of a brighter future is something many of us take for granted. But this promise is an illusion for many. It is not real or attainable. Circumstances like poverty, homelessness, mental health challenges, lack of access to support and care, and lack of timely response to a crisis all contribute to extinguishing the promise of a brighter future.  The grants we funded in 2015 were all about breaking the cycle and offering people the help they need to train for a different future. As you read this report, you’ll see themes emerge.

When it comes to change, it can never be a solo effort. Change is the result of the connections we make, and the success we have in cultivating relationships and providing resources to meet the varying needs within our communities. That’s why the Medica Foundation uses a multi-faceted funding approach to address these needs.

This year celebrates ten years of giving by the Medica Foundation. Over the years, Medica Foundation grants totaling $21 million have supported more than 750 organizations in our community, with awards ranging from $500 to $5 million. We are thankful for all the work our partners have done over the past ten years and look forward to supporting future efforts to improve the health and well being of our community.

It's the lucky person who has abundant opportunities and favorable circumstances. For many, circumstances conspire to limit opportunities. The wings to fly are elusive for many of us. However, circumstances can be changed. The Medica Foundation is committed to funding programs and initiatives that strengthen the health of individuals and communities. That means finding innovative programs that don't take circumstances for granted, but work to change them so that people have the opportunity to thrive.
